Nutifood Starts Work On Dairy Factory In North

Nutrition and dairy processing company NutiFood Vietnam on March 18 broke ground for a dairy factory at Kien Khe Industrial Park in the northern province of Ha Nam.

The VND1.6 trillion (US$74.3 million) facility covers 10 hectares and has an annual designed capacity of 200 million liters of milk and 31,000 tons of powdered dairy products.

The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase to be carried out until the second quarter of next year will need a total of VND700 billion, and can turn out 80 million liters of milk and 10,000 tons of powdered milk per year.

The second stage planned from the third quarter of next year and the first quarter of 2018 will cost VND900 billion and will produce 120 liters of milk and 21,000 tons of dairy powder.

Apart from normal dairy products, the factory will also process special dairy products for mothers, elderly and children and nutritional products.

On the same day, NutiFood and Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Group clinched a deal to support the development of dairy cow farming in Ha Nam Province. The two firms will assist local farmers in applying modern know-how to raise cows and grow grass for cows, as well as preserve and transport milk.

They will organize trips for dairy farmers to visit HAGL’s dairy farms in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, and help them import breeder cows at reasonable prices.

Nutifood pledged to consume all fresh milk from dairy farming households in Ha Nam Province in a long term.

Mai Tien Dung, chairman of the Ha Nam People’s Council, said the province’s dairy cow herd is expected to rise to 8,000 head in 2020 from the current 1,300-plus.
