Vietnam: A hotpot of FMCG industry
With the population size ranked as the third biggest in Southeast Asia, and with 56% of them are below 30 years old, Vietnam is one of the most promising markets of FMCG industry.
Due to rising disposable income levels, urbanization and changing lifestyles, consumer demand for snacks, convenience and luxury F&B items is increasing. The food sales is anticipated to grow up to 9.4% annually from 2012 to 2017 period. In addition, the developing tourism sector in Vietnam will fuel growth in convenience categories, together with subsectors such as soft drinks and alcoholic beverages (Business Monitor International, Vietnam Food & Drink Report Q1 2013, Oct 2012)2.
Food and Beverage consumer spending is growing. The food industry is expected to grow at 6% compound annual growth from 2013 to 2018 according to Euromonitor International. Expenditure on food and non-alcoholic beverages is projected to grow 7% per annum from 2012 to 2016 and reaching USD$276 by 2016 (Massan)2. In a speech by Mr. Phan Chi Dung, Director of the Department of Light Industry, Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade in a conference held recently, the total expenditure of Vietnamese consumers is expected to double and reach 173 billion USD in 2020 leading to the growth of FMCG industry of 20% per year, surpassing India, China, etc. Together with this growth is the expansion of modern retail lifestyle which opens the door for greater exposure to FMCG businesses (Datamonitor, and US Commercial Service)2. This is a great opportunity for businesses in FMCG to boost their manufacturing, expand their market and find for new areas to invest, according to Mr. Dung 3.
PROPAK VIETNAM 2016 is the ideal platform for Vietnamese food, drink and pharmaceutical manufacturers to enhance their competitiveness in the market. Not only sourcing the latest products and technological solutions, the industry leaders can expand their relationships by networking with peers from around the world, sharing knowledge and perspectives with industry experts, and discuss potential business partnerships.
Organized by Singapore Exhibition Services and VCCI Exhibition Services, PROPAK VIETNAM 2016 is part of the Allworld Exhibitions ‘PROPAK’ series of events which has served the Asian packaging industry for over 2 decades.
